Offered up today is this souvenir medal commemorating the fall of Rome through efforts of the Allied armies on June 4, 1944, which which eventually led to Germany's surrender of Italy. The medal was designed by a T. Masetti. The front of the medal depicts a dog (?) suckling two humans. The dog is standing atop the old Roman saying Senatus Populusque Romanus, or SPQR. There are what appear to be olive branches on either side of the dog. On the reverse of the medal we see "Souvenir of Allies' Entrance In To Rome - June the 4th 1944. A red, white, and green ribbon depicting Italy's flag, is tied into a bow through a loop at the top of the medal. Condition is excellent. Catchy, low priced collectible that is sure to increase in value as time goes on. Buyer pays only actual shipping charges. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. I do not wrap items until there is a bid, so weight is guesstimated. If you bid at the very end of the auction, please expect to wait a day or two to receive an actual weight invoice.
