Description

Harry Whinna Nice (1877-1941).  He was a member of the United StatesRepublican Party who served as the 50th Governor of Maryland from 1935 to 1939.  Nice rose to become Governor during the national depression, which brought great financial hardships to the state budget. To help find a solution to the situation, Nice assigned a committee to investigate ways of alleviating the debt, but was not pleased with the recommendations of raising taxes. Neither he nor the Maryland General Assembly felt it would be wise to raise taxes at such a rate. Also as Governor, Nice redesigned the governors' residence at Government House, changing the architectural style from Victorian to Gerogian.  After losing the support of his party, Nice was defeated by Herbert R. Oconor in 1938.  His signature, as Governor, on a card with a 1 cent Franklin stamp, postmarked at Annapolis.  Certificate of Authenticity from Pages of History provides a lifetime guarantee of authenticity.  We are full time autograph and document dealers registered with the UACC (#036), and members of the Manuscript Society.  Optional insurance is available at my cost for US deliveries only.  Payments must be by Pay Pal.  We regret that we cannot be responsible for loss or damage on uninsured lots.
