Description

Up for auction is a lot of five photo postcards of the Antico Caffè Greco. Cards measure 3¾” x 5¾”. “The Antico Caffè Greco (sometimes simply referred to as Caffè Greco) is an historic landmark café which opened in 1760 on 84, Via dei Condotti in Rome, Italy. It is perhaps the best known and oldest caffè in Rome.” “Past customers include Casanova, Keats, Goethe, Gogol, Werner, Stendhal, Liszt, Byron, Elizabeth Barret Browning, Buffalo Bill and the mad King Ludwig of Bavaria. The interior is elegantly furnished with antiques, paintings and original dedicated documents of its famous customers.” Today it remains a haven for writers, politicians, artists and notable people in Rome. These cards are in excellent unused condition, save for the stamp, signature (?) and date on the reverse of all the cards. I have tried to decipher the writing, to no avail! Perhaps someone out there in eBayland will know what it is… Maybe an artist’s signature? In any case, this is a nice lot of older postcards that would be a great addition to any collection of Italy postcards. Check my auctions for other lots of interesting postcards! Free shipping in USA; cost adjusted for additional items, or shipping outside the US. Insurance is the responsibility of the bidder. Thanks for looking!
