ANTIQUE TRADE BEADS 4 antique trade beads. Collectible and rare. These are two layers of glass, there may have been a third inner layer on some of these originally but after centuries of wear, the holes inside are now wide and only the two exterior layers of glass remain. Each has striping typical to these very old Dutch spit wound beads (made on the equivalent of a coat hanger for a marshmellow into open flame). These are unique, some with white striping, one handsome one that I love with green stripes, and another with golden yellow exterior glass decor. Size varies slightly as these are handmade beads but about 8mm to 10mm long each. Irreplaceable beads from my private collection. These beads were circulated by the Hudson Bay Company through their ships' charter from the Royal Family in England to Africa and North America. Traded like currency to tribal peoples. This set would make an excellent addition to your antique bead collection. Very hard to find this style of bead anymore, some say these go as far back as the 1600s to 1700s.
