I saved these old glass trade beads for many years because they are super rare. Sometimes called CROW EYES for their exterior polka dots, other times called Skunks. Usually these are in black with white eyes or dots, sometimes the Coraline de Aleppo variety is red with white spots. These ARE AUTHENTIC BLACK CORE BEADS with EXTERIOR COATING OF WHITE GLASS. These cost way more than the regular skunks, IF you can even find them anymore. These were made by the Venetians, for trade through the Hudson Bay Company who got a Charter from the British Royal Family to bring goods and trade beads to North America. The turquoise or light blue and light red dots or eyes were colors used by the Native American in their tribal pieces, so these were mostly likely designed to reach them through the hands of the fur trappers and Mountain Men who roamed the plains trading things with tribal peoples in the 1800s. I've seen these beads in Native American Indian necklaces, called heirloom necklaces, mixed with red whitehearts and maybe a few chevrons, that were passed down from generation to generation along matriarchal lines. My friends have also excavated these from as far North as Alaska, presumably taken there by Mountain Men traders during the Hudson Bay Company and fur trading era, others report finding them in digs as far south as Arizona. Set of three beads as shown in photo, you get these exact beads. Center bead is the largest at 14mm. Other pair of beads flanking are 10mm in diameter each. Nice variations on a theme. Would make a nice centerpiece for a tribal inspired bracelet or necklace. Handsome, very special trade beads. These are irreplaceable, I can't get these anymore for any price! Free shipping.
