ANTIQUE TRADE BEADS ANCIENT BEADS. These were excavated in Mali in the early 1960s. They date back to Islamic times, as early as 700 AS up to 1300 AD. Some are turquoise glass, others are white glass, many have calcifications on them from centuries of age. These are acheological beads. Small in size, a full strand can run hundreds of dollars and I recently saw just one of these beads list for $125! These came from Mali, Africa. They're called DJENNE BEADS. Size varies slightly as these are handmade beads, but about 3mm-5mm thick and 6mm to 10mm in diameter (largest is 1/2 in diameter). You get a set of 10 ancient glass beads. For collectors. These are very rare. They're great when you want to make a piece of jewelry that has that authentic antique or tribal look as well. Small sized beads. You get the 47 beads shown in the photos, a few inches worth. A full strand of these runs several hundred dollars because you just can't get them anymore. Traders who used to stock these beads even as recently as 10 years ago no longer have a single strand, I only have them because I held onto them for 25 years. Most bead dealers can't find them anywhere anymore. This type of bead was made by the Venetians, who were quite secretive about their hot glass bead making techniques. Made in the 1800s. In very good condition for their age. Large hole is wide enough to fit a fine cord through (shown here with a silver wire going through, about the thickness of an open paper clip). These beads were traded like currency on several continents, in Africa they were traded for spices and gold. In North American, these were brought by the Hudson Bay company, who chartered ships from England and their mountain men took them along the Lewis & Clarke expedition trade routes and traded them with Native American Indian tribes. A nice addition to your beads collection. Measures approximately 8mm in diameter. These make great spacers for ethnic or tribal inspired jewelry, also very nice to have if you like to collect antique beads! You get the exact handsome beads in the photo.
