This is a group of ten ancient Egyptian stone beads from the Old Kingdom Period, about 2500 BC. They are roughly cylindrical, and average about 4.1mm in diameter. That’s about 9/64" but of course, they are hand made and each different. They are made of gray or black steatite (a kind of soapstone) which was a popular material at that time because it was more easily worked than the harder stones. They are hand shaped, polished and drilled and were part of a funerary necklace recovered from a tomb in the 19th century.
